Whether the sound quality of the walkie-talkie is good, the speaker is the key!

Date:Jan 27, 2021

Everyone knows that the sound transmission in the radio transmission and reception relies on the horn. The horn is a kind of transducer device that converts the radio signal of the radio into an acoustic signal. great influence.

When choosing an intercom, everyone's concern is whether the intercom distance is far enough and whether the voice is clear? You must know that the communication distance of the walkie-talkie is affected in many ways. It is difficult for us to attribute it to a single aspect, but the voice is much clearer. Basically, the speaker of a walkie-talkie will directly affect the sound quality during a call.

The audio power generated by the walkie-talkie uses electromagnetic, piezoelectric or electrostatic effects to make the speaker cone or diaphragm vibrate and resonate (resonate) with the surrounding air to produce sound. So the question is, how do we judge the quality of the speakers? Here are some reference indicators for everyone:

  1. The parameters of the walkie-talkie speaker

    1

The sound pressure level difference between the strongest sound and the weakest sound emitted by the horn under the condition of regular non-distortion indicators of the walkie-talkie is measured in dB.

2. The sound quality index of the walkie-talkie speaker

Impedance refers to the impedance value that emerges at both ends of the voice coil of the walkie-talkie speaker at a certain operating frequency. The speaker can obtain the maximum power when it runs on this impedance value. Common speaker impedance values of walkie-talkies are mainly 4, 5, 6, 8, 16, 32 ohms and so on.

The pure tone of the walkie-talkie speaker is one of the important indicators to determine the quality of the speaker. Pure tone refers to the addition of a positive signal of a certain frequency to the intercom speaker within the scope of additional power and additional frequency. The speaker should be free of mechanical noise, ringing sound and garbage sound. Especially for loudspeakers produced by small factories or workshops with rough workmanship, impure sound is a widespread phenomenon.

The non-linear distortion of the walkie-talkie speaker is divided into three types: harmonic distortion, intermodulation distortion and transient intermodulation distortion. Harmonic distortion refers to the distortion caused by the addition of high-order harmonic components that the original signal does not have in the sound playback. Therefore, the harmonic distortion is mainly generated at low frequencies, especially at the resonance frequency. The main effect of intermodulation distortion is the tone of the sound.

Transient intermodulation distortion refers to the filling capacitor introduced in the low-frequency amplification when the amplifier inputs a pulse signal, because the capacitor delays the negative reaction, which causes the input stage to instantly overload and produce transient intermodulation distortion.

The extra power of the walkie-talkie speaker is the normal working power of the speaker. The speaker will not be destroyed as long as it works for a long time under this condition. And this one touches a maximum input peak power, which refers to the maximum power that the speaker can withstand.

When a constant voltage is applied to the input of the walkie-talkie horn, the relationship between the sound pressure level at a certain point in the horn's axis and the frequency is called frequency response.

Therefore, a good walkie-talkie must be equipped with high-quality speakers, so that it can be considered a perfect product.
