On January 14, 2020, Oakland, California, USA selected Motorola's Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS) solution to ensure the resilience of its computer-aided scheduling (CAD) operations in the event of a disaster. The CAD system enables emergency dispatch operators to initiate service calls and dispatch emergency personnel calls, and maintain real-time incident status information and alerts. In the event of an earthquake, wildfire, or other disaster that disrupts its local CAD system, DRaaS enables Oakland to have a full-featured CAD system in the cloud shortly after the agency reports an outage, thereby creating a virtual communication center.
"Taking action to back up our local CAD operations in the cloud is critical to us. Therefore, the time spent developing this DRaaS feature in partnership with Motorola Solutions is sufficient time." Said Andrew'Pete'Peterson, CIO of Auckland . "DRaaS's web-based disaster recovery capabilities allow us to ensure the geographical diversity of our backup systems, cost-effectively, instead of spending a lot of effort replicating local backup systems, and complementing the city's vision to migrate applications to the cloud. Motorola solves The program's expertise in the areas of public safety and cloud will help ensure that our CAD systems work properly during a disaster. "
